Antique Dresser to Bathroom Vanity

Here are the details on our custom vanity transformation….
I always wanted to convert an old dresser into a custom vanity and I found the perfect piece at my local resale shop to do just that. I picked up this beauty for just $150 and with a little sanding, paint, cuts and fixtures we created a one of a kind double vanity for our bathroom renovation that cost a fraction of purchasing one.

* first I sanded the top down to the original wood and put a coat of Minwax stain in dark walnut and 2 coats of Minwax polycrylic clear ultra flat.

*since the body was previously painted with a chalk paint there was no need to sand or prime, I just painted over with Rust-Oleum chalked paint in linen white and finished it off with a wax.

*we realized that the dresser was just a bit to short for a functional vanity so we added rounded feet to the bottom, also stained in the dark walnut and it was perfect.
*next was the hardest part, we needed to retrofit the drawers to accommodate the pipes, this would have been much easier had the dresser had doors on the side but I wanted this one and thankfully my talented hubby made it work and the drawers are still functional.
*finally holes were cut in the top for the drains and the sinks were set in place and caulked.
So there it is my friends, I’m sorry I don’t have pictures of the entire process but you get the idea. I’m happy to report that this was done nearly 2 years ago and it’s still as beautiful as day one!
