Transforming a blank wall into a focal point is one of my favorite kinds of projects. I’ve always found fireplaces to be incredibly cozy and calming, and I’ve wanted one in our bedroom for years. This space finally gave me the perfect opportunity to make that dream a reality.
There are so many amazingly realistic electric fireplaces on the market now, and what I love most about this one is that it can be used with or without heat—so it’s perfect all year long!
I started by sketching out the design I had in mind, and then my husband got to work framing it from floor to ceiling. He built the opening for the fireplace insert, added a mount for the TV, and installed new electrical outlets. Once the structure was in place, we covered everything with shiplap, built a custom pine mantel, and added hinges to the bench so it could double as extra storage.
This kind of feature wall can be scaled to fit almost any room, and it adds such a warm, inviting ambiance. I honestly don’t know how we lived without it before.
